Why I Started TEOWA

Why I Started TEOWA

Stillness in a World of Too Much

Every day, we are surrounded by endless information.

Notifications.

Social media.

An infinite stream of speed.

Without realizing it, I began to feel constantly rushed—

as if something, somewhere, was always pushing me forward.

Time kept flowing.

My thoughts became crowded.

And stillness felt distant.

Too Much

2024 was one of the most beautiful years of my life.

In October, our third child was born.

I was deeply, completely happy.

And yet—life became overwhelming.

Since moving to the U.S. in 2018,

my wife and I have built everything together.

We love the freedom, the energy, the possibility.

And our three children are the greatest gift of our lives.

But life here is not easy.

Without the support system we had in Japan,

parenting and responsibility kept expanding.

At the same time, my curiosity kept pulling me forward.

I wanted to build more.

Create more.

Explore more.

And yet, I also wanted to be present—

as a father, as a husband.

Somewhere along the way,

I realized:

It was too much.

Wabi-Sabi

One day, I told a friend how I felt.

He simply said:

“Maybe life is Wabi-Sabi.”

That moment stayed with me.

Wabi-Sabi is often described as

the beauty of imperfection and time.

But to me, it became something simpler:

Simplicity.

Stillness.

Letting Go

I began by clearing my space.

I let go of what I didn’t need.

Kept only what truly mattered.

The room became lighter.

So did my mind.

Then I simplified my digital life.

One home screen.

No unnecessary apps.

Almost no notifications.

Not everything is urgent.

Most things are not.

Silence slowly returned.

The Way of Tea

Still, something was missing.

I didn’t just need a clean space—

I needed a new rhythm.

So in December 2024,

I stepped into the world of tea.

At first, it seemed simple.

Preparing a bowl.

Serving it.

Drinking it.

But within that single act,

there was everything:

History.

Scent.

Sound.

Temperature.

Light.

And space.

In that quiet time,

something I had lost began to return.

Stillness

Now, I spend hours each week in practice.

No phone.

No screen.

No noise.

Just presence.

At first, I thought I would go occasionally.

Now, it has become part of my life.

A rhythm I didn’t know I needed.

Rediscovery

Tea is not easy.

The movements are precise.

The learning never ends.

And that is exactly why it is beautiful.

Step by step,

I began to rediscover something I had forgotten:

The joy of being a beginner.

From Tea to Essence

As I went deeper, my curiosity expanded.

I began exploring matcha—

tasting everything I could.

Eventually, I traveled across Japan,

meeting tea farmers,

tasting over 300 kinds of matcha.

I realized something important:

Tea is not just about taste.

It is about place.

People.

Process.

Time.

TEOWA

Through this journey, I understood:

In a world of excess,

we don’t need more.

We need awareness.

TEOWA was born from this realization.

It is not just a product.

It is a journey—

to rediscover awareness through the five senses.

The taste of matcha.

The scent of hinoki.

The sound of water.

The texture of fabric.

The quiet beauty of light and shadow.

Your Journey

My journey began with one feeling:

Too much.

And led me to something else:

Stillness.

TEOWA is an invitation—

to pause,

to notice,

to return.

This is my journey.

And perhaps—

it can become yours too.
